Due to its favourable geographic position, Kazan has a well-designed ramified transport system that connects Kazan with federal regions of Russia and countries abroad. The city boasts a comprehensive transport system of railways, highways, airways and river routes.

The fastest way to get to Kazan is to take a plane flying to the Kazan International Airport.

The Kazan International Airport is a civil airport of the capital of Tatarstan. It is located 26 kilometers away south-east of the city. At present the airport handles around 1.7 million passengers a year and operates flights to cities in Russia and abroad. The flights are carried out by the following airlines: Lufthansa, S7, Transaero, Utair, Ak Bars Aero, Turkish Airlines, Fly Dubai, Ural Airlines, Somon Air, Nordwind Airlines and others.

Kazan has direct flights to many cities of Russia, and also operates regular international flights. A list of airlines and flight schedule is available at the official website of the airport.

In the build-up to the 27th Summer Universiade, the Kazan International Airport has undergone considerable extension work including the construction of a new terminal and reconstruction of existing ones, which increased the airport's throughput capacity to 2.2 million passengers per year.

The terminal complex includes three terminals for domestic and international flights: Terminal 1A, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 (VIP and business class). Terminals 1A and 1 are connected to each other and have access to Terminal Aeroexpress.

The airport offers an extensive array of passenger services: restaurants and cafes, a bank and a post office, tourist information offices and airline offices, taxis and car rental services. Secure baggage wrap service is available at the airport for those travelling with suitcases.

There is a variety of transportation options for getting to and from the airport: taxi, public transport or aeroexpress.

City bus

City bus No 97 runs the following route: Sakharova St – Prospekt Pobedy St (Prospekt Pobedy metro station) – Republican Clinical Hospital (Yuzhny Bus Station) – Kazan International Airport.
Daily service starts at 5.00am and ends with a final run at 11.00pm (the last bus leaves from the airport at 9.45pm). Travel time from the last bus stop is 1 hour 30 minutes.
Fare: 39 rubles.

Aeroexpress

Route: Kazan International Airport – Kazan-1 Central Railway Station.
Trains start running from the airport at 7.00am and end their service at 11.20pm (the interval is every two hours), trains start running from Kazan at 8.00pm and end their service at 12.15am (the interval is every two hours). Travel time is 20 minutes.
